Our Mission
Our goal is to transform and enrich the life of every dog we rescue by training them to be exceptional service dogs who make a positive difference in the lives of those we place them with. We train and place each dog at no cost to our clients while providing ongoing to support to encourage independence and ensure a successful lifelong partnership that benefits everyone. We also work continuously to educate the public about service dogs and the rights of people with disabilities.
Our Focus
We train our service dogs to assist people of all ages who are living with a variety of challenges and disabilities. Our training programs are tailored to support our clients in a number of tasks that can be critical to their day-to-day safety and independence. These include picking up dropped items, turning on lights, opening doors and other siple day-to-day needs that can be difficult or impossible for many clients to do on their own. Our service dogs not only assist people with disabilities, they also provide peace of mind for those who care for them – something many parents and loved ones often never imagined was possible.
Currently, our training programs prepare dogs to assist individuals with the following needs:
- Limited mobility (wheelchair, unstable walking, balance difficulty)
- Hearing impairments
- Medical response needs (seizures, epilepsy, diabetes)
- Psychological challenges (PTSD)
We also train facility dogs to perform animal-assisted interventions at certain facilities, such as schools, court rooms, rehabilitation centers, hospitals and other medical facilities.
Through hard work and heartfelt love, our FurReal Heroes team is helping to expand the reach and impact of service dogs to more individuals, families and facilities throughout our community. We also continue to work with Viking Pups and other organizations to educate the public on service dog rights and etiquette in order to foster greater awareness and acceptance of people with disabilities and the important role of service dogs have in their lives.
